We always ate dinner from trays balanced on our knees, since we never had a dining area and also the kitchen always seemed a bit dark and cold. This was somewhat of a pain and not practical or comfortable, as you can imagine. We would all be glued to the TV and not seemed to talk greatly while we ate.
We had been thrilled to have a second room downstairs, which, of course, became our long-awaited dining area. That transpired when we moved house.
